All In A Day's Work

I'm still trying to wind down after work yesterday. It was a particularly difficult day. One of our dog patients decided he was NOT going to let us near him. He was at the back of his kennel growling, showing us his full mouth of teeth and lunging when we approached. Did I mention he was around 100 pounds? We couldn't even get close enough to give him a sedative. Last resort... rabies pole. The rabies pole is never a fun thing to have to use. We also had the pleasure of repairing a cat declaw gone wrong. PEOPLE PLEASE DO NOT GET YOUR CAT DECLAWED!!!! Poor little kitty had been declawed at another hospital and wasn't healing properly. Her little paws were bloody and very, very painful. After 11 hours with only pizza on the go for lunch, we had 2 after hours emergency surgeries. We did an exploratory laparotomy and removed a piece of rubber ball from a dogs intestines and we amputated the toe of a baby chicken who had gotten it stuck on something and ripped part of it off. Not only was it a physically exhausting day (13 hours, no real break), but a very emotional one as well. I found out that one of my most favorite clients is moving to the east coast this summer :( On top of everything going on yesterday, one of my friends from work had to say goodbye to his best friend, the most handsome and sweet pit bull, Trevor. There were lots of tears. It really brought back some of the sadness I felt when we lost our little buddy Frick almost 2 years ago. He was the most spirited cat I have ever known. He had a special way of making everyone like him, including those who didn't like cats! I still think about him every day...

So, another work week behind me. Although my job can be very physically and emotionally draining at times, I can't imagine doing anything else! I feel proud to say that we definitely
helped out some suffering animals yesterday... all in a day's work.

TGIF!!

Whew!! It's been a long week at the Jensen household. I normally only work on Wednesday and Thursday, but worked Tuesday this week too. Thanks Grandma Carol for keeping Aayla overnight on Tuesday to help us out! I only worked 30 hours this week and am completely exhausted! I have so much respect for all the ladies who work full time and mommy full time... I don't know how you do it!! Aayla still has that dang viral thing too so she has been a little unpredictable lately. Well, sadly the sun has left us again. Boo hoo. But we did have some really awesome weather last week. Owen hung out with Aayla and I on Saturday. They had tons of fun in the little blue pool!

One of Aayla's new favorite thing is drawing on the patio with chalk And then she likes to dip the chalk in the pool and then right into her mouth. Eeewwwhhh!!!

Another new fav of hers is putting quarters in the piggy bank. When she's done she always wants to kiss the pig!

Happy Mama Day!!

TO MY MOTHER

For all the times you gently picked me up,
When I fell down,
For all the times you tied my shoes
And tucked me into bed,
Or needed something
But put me first instead.

For everything we shared,
The dreams, the laughter,
And the tears,
I love you with a "Special Love"
That deepens every year.

Nothing can make you appreciate, understand, and respect your mother more than becoming a mother yourself. To all my beautiful, wondrous moms out there, I send a HUGE hug and kiss. Celebrate yourself today.... we are amazing!

My mommy cuddles me
kisses me, hugs me and misses me
pampers me, praises me, always
amazes me

Washes my clothes for me,
tickles my toes for me,
giggles and talks with me,
and also goes on walks with me,
Says "sweet dreams" to me,
Sings sweet songs to me,
I am glad she belongs to me.

Whibbit!

This is Aayla's watchfrog, Mr Frog. She likes to wave at him from the screen door of our family room. He keeps a watchful eye on her window at night. It only took about 8 takes and a pretty big make out session with Mr. Frog for me to get this picture!!

Monday, May 5

Yeah!! Sun!! And lots of it!!

After three l o n g days of staying at home because we've been sick, Aayla and I finally ventured out! We had a great day with Grandma and cousin Lucas and little buddy Owen! The weather was GORGEOUS. It was a perfect day to play at the park...

Aayla only looks unhappy in the picture below. She was totally fine once she got her binky back.
